THE BIG PROJECT
For twelve years 'Poetic Hours' has been raising money for different causes of all sorts. Now, in 2005 we are planning a big project. We intend to spend a large amount of cash - upto £1000 on one single piece of work where it will really make a difference. It will be a fresh water project of some description - probably the provision of storage tanks in a single village somewhere in Asia. The details will be worked out later this year and we will report back to you as everything unfolds.
We won't work alone. For the successful conclusion of our idea, we will need the assistance of 'Muslim Hands' - a very successful and visionary charity based in Nottingham but active all over the UK and internationally. They will organise the actual work and select the region where help is most needed. In addition, we will gain further funding from Erran Publishing. This is the imprint or company that own 'Poetic Hours' for tax purposes and money can be supplied to supplement the amounts raised by the magazine so that our regular contributors don't miss out when the project is underway.
Overall, this will be the largest and most important single piece of work that we have done to date. Its very much at the heart of what we want to achieve.
We would like the support of all our regular readers and we would ask you to click on this page whenever you visit the site to check for updates. When everything gets underway , 'Muslim Hands' will keep us informed of everything that goes off.

Having liased with 'Muslim Hands' over the summer, we have decided that we haven't got enough to do some of the projects that interest us without jeopardising other regular contributions. We will therefore continue saving and review the situation next year to see if we can accumulate more spare cash. The project will now become more long term though.

Despite having paid out our regular Christmas contributions, our available resources have now topped £1000. This should be enough to proceed with a larger scale project than before.Further discussions will now take place with 'Muslim Hands' to see what projects are available for sponsorship.

We are now making the final decision as to what the final projects will be. There will be at least two, possibly three seperate water and sanitation projects.

The final decision as to the nature of the Big Project has been made and a payment of £825 to fund it sent to Muslim Hands who will orchestrate the programme. There are two parts to it in two different countries. In Afganistan, where the demand for water is great but difficult to meet, we will build a communal well to serve a whole village or area. In another country, as yet unspecified, we will sink a tubewell for water and then set up a sanitation system that keeps it from being contaminated and plant fruit trees all around it.This work will take a while but we will get reports on progress and when they are established, we will report back with photographs on this page. Please also see the editors diary and the news page for any further developments - the links are below.
