Ever wondered what 133 selection boxes looked like ? Now you know. These are our regular donation to Family Care for distribution to disadvantaged children in inner city Nottingham. They cost in total, £100.
Mr Ed, his Christmas tree and the selection boxes your poetry bought....poor lad, he never did take a good picture.
MONEY FOR AFGHAN REFUGEES

A report that didn't make the last issue was our donation in October to the Afghan refugee crisis. 'Poetic Hours' donated the sum of £50
This choir is led by Handsen Chickawore in Zimbabwe. Handsen works with disadvantaged children - trying to keep them from crime. He appeals regularly for instruments for the group and 'Poetic Hours' has paid for the postage for two keyboards and a guitar to be sent to him. The instruments were actually provided by a church in Woking but they didn't have the money to post them on. Amazingly this cost only £32.
You may remember back in the summer, 'Poetic Hours' contributed towards a washing machine for an orphanage in Bulgaria through the Star of Hope charity. Our last major Christmas donation for this year goes to the same charity to pay the postage on some Pringles tubes going to the same place. The tubes are filled with toys at this end and sent in time for Christmas..

'Poetic Hours ' had a good year - you paid in lots of cash so I spent it !
Our Christmas donations included £150 to family Care - that's 140 selection boxes for the disadvantaged kids in their care and some older presents as well - smellies and that sort of thing (for their older children).

In addition we gave a huge £200 to Oxfam for their Southern African Famine Appeal !

Well done to all of you who raised this cash.

Here are the details of our donations so far this year.
'Poetic Hours' has donated £100  which went with aid workers from the 'Star of Hope' charity when they flew out in September to the Roman Orphanage in Bulgaria. This was used to buy fresh fruit and vitamins. An email from the workers on their return said some of the children had had oranges for the first time in their lives.
Poetic Hours has just donated £100 to pay for a water pump and Tubewell in a village in India or Pakistan via the Muslim Hands charity. The Tubewell has now been built. Press the link to see the picture of the pump in action.

New Roman Orphanage Pictures !
Poetic Hours was invited to participate in 'Operation Rudolph' a new venture to buy hampers for needy families in Nottingham. We donated £100 to pay for five..
Our usual donations of selection boxes and toys to 'Family Care' has been made. For the second year running we have managed double the amount of our old donation - a great £200.

As you can see from this picture the 'toys' consisted of make-up for the older girls and footballs for the boys - or the other way round if necessary !
Some of the other gifts collected by Family Care for distribution to needy children this Christmas. One of the problems they have is that most second hand donations tend to be for younger children so when our footballs, make-up and chocolate arrived one of the workers said we had 'made their day' !
Thanks to everyone.
